INDIANAPOLIS (May 1, 2014) – Indianapolis Metropolitan police identified a man found dead and bound in an alley on the west side last week.
On April 23, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West 34th Street. They found the victim in the alley and were unable to identify him. Investigators later released a sketch of the man.
Thursday, they identified him as 55-year-old Kevin Coughlin.
Investigators said Coughlin died from a gunshot. They have not released a motive for the killing.
Early Thursday morning, IMPD officers found a car connected to the homicide near 17th and Rural.
Coughlin’s obituary posted on Justen Funeral Homes website gives more information about the man police worked to identify. Coughlin was born in Illinois and received his B.A. degree from Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. He later moved to Indianapolis, where he resided for most of his life.
“Kevin was the generous, loving and creative presence of the Coughlin family. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends,” read the obituary in part.
Visitation will be held today from 3-8 p.m. His funeral will be held on Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry, Ill.
