INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 17, 2014)– A young child and a woman were shot near Creekwood Apartments on the city’s northwest side Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the 2100 block of Amerherst Drive just before 7 p.m. on a report of a person shot.

Police identified the victims as Maria Bruno, 33, and Zamaria Harrison, 4. Indianapolis Metropolitan police said they were not the intended victims of the shooting.

Bruno was hit by a stray bullet and suffered a leg wound. She was taken to Eskenazi Hospital. The 4-year-old child was hit while inside a vehicle and was in critical condition after suffering gunshot wounds to the leg. Police said Bruno and Harrison are not related.

Officers believe eight to ten shots were fired.
