SHELBYVILLE, IN — The Shelbyville Police Department had roads surrounding the 1200 block of Elm Street blocked off all day Tuesday as investigators looked at a home where a woman was last seen four years ago.
A big crowd lined the street Tuesday afternoon and into the evening while detectives and the University of Indianapolis Archaeology and Forensics team dug up the yard.
A tow truck moved the shed in the backyard and crews carefully dug for hours.
Search dogs arrived around dinnertime.
Settled on a front porch amongst the onlookers was the man who lives in the home.
Scott Schuck says he was 33-year-old Rebecca Cassidy’s boyfriend of five years and that officers showed up at his home Tuesday morning with a warrant.
“If it takes two days, three weeks, four months, two years, let them waste their time,” said Schuck. “It hurts me to see my property destroyed.”
Cassidy, mother of two, was reported missing by her family after she didn’t show up for work in April 2010.
Schuck says he’s cooperated with authorities over the years and insists nothing suspicious will surface.
“Her and I’s relationship, we connected, she came a long way and everything,” said Schuck. “I have no clue what happened. I just know when she left here it’s the last time I’ve seen her.”
The Shelbyville prosecutor was at the scene most of the day.
Investigators won’t say what led them to the house Tuesday morning, or what they found, if anything. They will only say it’s “an ongoing investigation.”
