INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An Indianapolis Metropolitan police officer was laid to rest Wednesday.

Funeral services for Officer Kim Carmack began at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Visitation was Tuesday afternoon. The parking lot of Crown Hill Funeral home was filled with police cars as mourners turned out to remember Carmack, killed last week in a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday, the funeral procession began at the cathedral and made a stop at the IMPD Southwest District before ending at Crown Hill Cemetery. Meridian Street was closed starting at 9 a.m. and remained closed into the afternoon.

Carmack was killed in her home in the 2400 block of Inishmore Court on the evening of April 17. Police said Carmack’s ex-husband, Sgt. Ryan Anders, fatally shot her before killing himself.

A wreath is set up in the lobby of the Southwest District where Carmack worked. Her fellow officers are remembering her personality and smile. Carmack is also being remembered as a mother and grandmother. Her son is also an IMPD officer.

“It’s that shocking to those of us who knew her and loved her,” said IMPD Officer Patrick Snyder.

Carmack will be honored as an officer who died while actively assigned to the department. Her police car was parked in front of the Southwest District Wednesday morning.

“Keep our department in prayer as we go through this very difficult day,” said IMPD Chaplain David Coatie.
