COLUMBUS, Ind. (April 6, 2014) — DNR officials say they are looking for a kayaker who went missing on the White River near Mill Race Park in Columbus.

Two men were in the light blue kayak when it overturned, but only one of them was able to get to shore. We’re told the missing kayaker was not a swimmer. There were no life jackets on the kayak. The search has now been deemed a “search and recovery.”

The missing kayaker has been identified as Enrique Quinonez, 27, Kalamazoo, Mich.

The man who called for help and reported him missing is also in his 20s but was from Columbus.

He says when the kayak capsized, he went after Quinonez, grabbed his hoodie and pulled him to a tree, but he disappeared back into the water.

DNR officials say six boats are on White River, and a chopper is in the air looking for Quinonez.

The water is currently too dangerous for divers. Additional search equipment, like sonar, has been brought in to assist.
