INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 30, 2014)– One person is dead following a shooting on the city’s northeast side.

Police were called to the 10100 block of Ellis Drive around 6:30 p.m.Thursday, near East 42nd and Mitthoeffer Road on a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified him Friday morning as Derrick Thomas, 25, Indianapolis.

Officers quickly gathered information that led them to the 4100 block of Elmont Terrace where they took three males and two females into custody. They’re considered persons of interest.

All individuals were taken to the homicide office for questioning.  Detectives do not believe this is a random act.

Police said Friday that no arrests had been made. The investigation continues, and detectives will present their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
