(Aug. 4, 2014) – Colts Camp Live returned Monday with FOX59 and the IndyStar.

FOX59’s Chris Hagan and the IndyStar’s Mike Chappell talked to Colts defensive end Cory Redding.

Redding said the weather is starting to feel more like training camp after mild temperatures last week. He said players are looking forward to the first preseason game Thursday because it gives them a chance to “knock the rust off” and get game action under their belt.

“We go about 75 percent in practice. We go 100 percent in a game,” Redding said. “You don’t want to have injuries (in practice).”

Redding believes the additions of defensive end Arthur Jones and linebacker D’Qwell Jackson in free agency will immediately improve the defense. Redding said coach Chuck Pagano is constantly challenging his players and that’s why the Colts play so hard for him. He expects Andrew Luck and the Colts offense to keep some of the pressure off the defensive unit.

“The sky’s the limit. When you have a guy like No. 12 (Andrew Luck), a triggerman that understands the game, who’s a monster with the ball in his hands (and) can throw it downfield at any window…it’s easy for the defense to play ‘controlled reckless,'” he said. “Luck and the boys on the offensive crew are going to put points on the board and we’re going to win a lot of games.”

Chappell and Hagan discussed the changes in Indianapolis since the very first Colts training camp. Chappell said the city of Indianapolis owes former quarterback Peyton Manning a lot; Indy’s football renaissance wouldn’t have happened without him. While Indy remains a basketball town, Chappell said Manning set the standard–a standard he believes Luck will uphold.

The Colts play their first preseason game Thursday. Reggie Wayne won’t be in the lineup, Pagano revealed Monday. Chappell says he expects the young offensive line to see a lot of time during the first game and throughout the preseason as the unit tries to find its footing.
