ARCADIA, Ind. (Oct. 12, 2014) — A scary situation in the small town of Arcadia.
A World War II veteran was severely beaten inside his own home Thursday, friends say. Now, there’s a call for leads to help police find the people responsible. The family of Hershel “Bud” Moore, 94, hopes the people who left him bruised will be found.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, two men entered his home and tied him up. They took a “large sum of money” and then ransacked the home. Moore managed to free himself after the men left. He told police the suspects were two white men in masks.
Moore has a large family, both through blood and strong friendships. One of those friends is Michael Probst, who was devastated when he heard the news.
“Just made me sick to my stomach, pretty much couldn’t sleep all night, nauseous,” Probst said.
His friendship with the man he knows as “Bud” dates back 20 years, if not more.
“Just all I thought about is what he had to go through,” Probst said.
Many of the specifics of what happened aren’t being revealed as detectives investigate. In the small town of Arcadia, where Moore has lived many years, emotions are running high. A family member said he’s the oldest living veteran in Hamilton County, one who is well respected and well loved by many people.
“Really nice guy, he’s always quiet, keeps to himself, helping people out, good to his community. Just an all around good guy,” Probst said. “I mean, it’s pretty sick for something like this to happen.”
A message from someone close to Moore on a Facebook page dedicated to him thanks everyone for their support and prayers. Detectives are investigating.
