INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 24, 2014) — A woman in her 80s is in the hospital after she was shot while sitting on her porch Thursday afternoon.
Family and friends say Sally Lisenby was minding her own business when a man walked up and started firing at her house. Family members say they have no idea why Lisenby’s home was shot as many times as it was. They told FOX59 Lisenby is 89 years old.
“She’s kind, everyone wanted their kids for her to watch, when she was able to keep kids, she’s just ‘Mama,’ everybody calls her ‘Mama,'” said Terri Wells, one of Lisenby’s great-grand daughters.
A number of 911 calls filtered in to the dispatch center around 4:30 p.m. from people hearing gunshots near in near East 34th Street and Guilford Avenue. Police say a man, matching a description given to them, fired a gun in the direction of a police officer, but that officer was not hit.
Eventually, police ended up 3300 block of North Carrollton Avenue and found Lisenby with a painful gunshot wound. One family member said the bullet is still inside her, and she’s sedated because of the physical pain that came from the bullet.
“They saw her sitting there, and just didn’t care,” said Wells.
There is a person of interest who may have been grazed by a bullet, and that person was treated at a local hospital before being questioned. In the meantime, the family is coming together as the hope for the best outcome possible.
Lisenby is being treated by doctors here at Eskenazi Hospital. Police are looking for a possible second person of interest.
