INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 27, 2014)– A man has turned himself in following a hit-and-run crash on the west side.

Police were called out to the 3400 block of Georgetown Road near West 34th Street just before 6 p.m. Thursday on a report of a possible crash involving a fatality.

Detectives believe the suspect’s white truck was heading north on Georgetown Road when it struck the victim’s vehicle heading west on 34th Street. The collision caused the victim’s vehicle to strike two other vehicles whose occupants were uninjured. The driver of the suspect vehicle immediately ran from the scene. A total of four vehicles, including the suspect’s vehicle, were involved in the crash.

At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, William Edwards, 33, of Indianapolis, was brought to Eskenazi Health uninjured by family members after making erratic and inconsistent statements to them about what happened.

Edwards will be preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, possession of marijuana and battery.

While at Eskenazi, Edwards engaged in a fight and battered deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
