INDIANAPOLIS – A Ben Davis High School student was arrested Monday afternoon, accused of bringing a loaded hand gun to campus.
School administrators sent a letter to parents explaining the discovery of a loaded gun on the school’s campus Monday.
The letter, sent by Principal Sandra Squire, said:
“I am writing to tell you about an incident that took place at school today. During the day, administration received information about a possible weapon on campus. Through a thorough investigation, we did find and recover a loaded handgun. The student found in possession has been arrested and is suspended pending expulsion. There is no indication that the student had intention of using the item. The school is secure and the day has continued as normal. Thank you for your continued support of Ben Davis High School.”
Kids who know the student described him as being a low-key guy who acted “normal” with them. They were surprised to learn he would do such a thing.
“He was raised by a good family. I don’t know what he’s doing,” said a student who wished not to be identified. “It’s a learning experience for him, not do something like that again.”
The school did not release any information about whether or not the student had any past behavioral history at Ben Davis.
In December 2013, a different Ben Davis student was arrested after administrators found a gun in his backpack.
