GREENWOOD, Ind. (July 11, 2014)—One person was killed after a small plane crashed into two houses in Greenwood, Ind. Friday afternoon.

Greenwood Police said the accident occurred near the intersection of Patterson and Main streets.

It was reported the plane took off from the Greenwood airport and lost power before crashing into two homes.

The pilot in the plane was killed and a co-pilot was transported to Methodist Hospital with serious injuries, said police. The co-pilot, identified as Michael Joseph Elliot, from Florida, is currently in critical condition.

Two people on the ground were slightly injured as they tried to save the pilot, said authorities.  One person sustained minor electrical shock after stepping on a power line that went down during the crash.  The another person suffered a sprained ankle.

An investigation is ongoing.
