HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (July 15, 2014) – Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed a 20-year-old bicyclist Monday night.

The victim, identified as Nicholas Camp of Cicero, was found on the side of the road around 9:30 p.m.

The initial investigation showed that Camp was riding southbound on Main Street when the left handlebar of his bicycle was struck by a passing car, causing him to lose control of the bike and crash.

Camp was found with his bicycle on top of him. He was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head trauma, said authorities.

He was taken to Riverview Hospital and then airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The vehicle that struck Camp left the scene and the driver may not know that someone was hit. Police said the vehicle would have been traveling southbound on Main Street between Neal Street and Buckeye Street around 9:40 p.m. and may have damage to the passenger side mirror or side.

Anyone with information on the vehicle should contact Sgt. Brian Niec of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at 317-776-4106.

Camp leaves behind a 9-month-old daughter.
