Investigators found one of the knives in the pantry, which is where they believe the inmates made their escape. Jail officials said they got out through the pantry ceiling, giving them access to an exterior wall constructed with steel siding. Bertram used a knife to cut a hole in the siding so they could get to the roof. Once on the rooftop, Bertram and Dennis shed their jail uniforms, jumped to the ground and ran off.
