HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (April 28, 2014) – Two inmates escaped from the Henry County Jail Monday morning.
Officials at the jail believe the pair got out around 4 a.m. The first escapee is Johnny Dennis. He’s a white male, 41 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall and 160 pounds. He was in jail on robbery and battery charges.
The second escapee is Michael Bertram. He’s a white male, 37 years old, 6-feet tall and 196 pounds. He had been sentenced to three years in a theft case.
Two kitchen knives came up missing at the same time the inmates disappeared. Investigators found one of the knives in the pantry, which is where they believe the inmates made their escape. Jail officials said they got out through the pantry ceiling, giving them access to an exterior wall constructed with steel siding. Bertram used a knife to cut a hole in the siding so they could get to the roof. Once on the rooftop, Bertram and Dennis shed their jail uniforms, jumped to the ground and ran off.
