INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 5, 2014) — Four SWAT police officers were shot Wednesday night on the city’s near southeast side.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., IMPD officers were attempting to serve a high-risk narcotics search warrant in the 1600 blk. of State Ave.

As officers were making entry into the house, while announcing “police search warrant,” an unidentified male suspect started firing his gun at the officers from inside the house.

Officers fearing for their lives immediately returned fire killing the suspect.

Four officers were injured as a result of the suspect’s gunfire, but none of the officers sustained life-threatening injuries.

Two officers were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital; one officer was transported to Eskenazi Hospital and one officer was treated at the scene and released.

All officers are alert, conscious and listed in good condition.

Two officers are expected to remain hospitalized overnight for observation, and another officer has been released from the hospital.

Officers believe that illegal narcotics were being sold from inside the house.

The suspect is believed to be the intended target of the narcotics investigation.

Four other individuals were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and they were not injured.

At this point in time, the suspect’s identity is not being released.
