INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 29, 2014) — Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the latest homicide in the city.
Around 1:50 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to 31st St. and Graceland Ave. and found two men inside that car with gunshot wounds. Police say the driver of the car was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he later died. The passenger was pronounced dead on scene.
Investigators believe the men were shot in an alley east of 3100 N. Graceland Ave near 32nd St., then drove around and ended up at 31st and Graceland.
Neighbors rushed over to try to help.
“I got dressed and went over to the car. when I got to the car, dude was taking his last breaths,” said Greg Townsel.
Police haven’t said how many shots were fired, but Townsel says one of the men was shot more than once.
“What I saw was twice, I saw twice,” Townsel said. “I went over to the car, there was one in his neck and one in his head.”
Crime, and neighborhood improvements, were two of the topics discussed at a community forum on the east side, Thursday night. Members of the community had the chance to ask IMPD officers and city officials about what to do if, for example, they smell burning marijuana or if they want vacant houses torn down.
Police say these meetings are important, and do plan to have others in the near future.
