LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Aug. 7, 2015) – Northbound I-65 is closed again near Lafayette after more concerns arose with the Wildcat Creek Bridge.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said the bridge was closed and told drivers to see an alternate route. Traffic was being diverted to U.S. 52 because of the closure. Structural experts determined that the existing riverbank pier settled, causing the concern.
I-65 northbound merges to one lane and is diverted onto U.S. 52 at Exit 141 north of Lebanon. INDOT says to follow U.S. 52 north for about 17 miles, then turn left at State Road 28.
Follow S.R. 28 west for about 10 miles, then turn right onto U.S. 231. Follow U.S. 231 north for about 33 miles until it intersects I-65 again in White County.
INDOT said engineers were reassessing the bridge after noticing movement on a riverbank pier. There was no timetable on when the bridge would reopen.
Emergency repairs earlier this week caused a traffic headache in the area after INDOT closed the bridge to traffic Tuesday. The bridge reopened Wednesday night before being closed again.
