INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 6, 2015)– The bigger, the better is the new motto for some women when it comes to their backside. It’s a pop culture trend that was reignited by the Kim Kardashians of the world, leading to rap and pop artists making songs all about the rear. FOX59 found that trend is also catching on in central Indiana.

A local plastic surgeon leads the way in the field of gluteal enlargement also known as the “Brazilian butt lift.”

“It’s something they look in the mirror and say ‘hmm, you mean I can have that done. I can increase my curves and the shape and I think I’d like to do that,'” said Dr. Wally Zollman of Zollman Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Zollman has plumped up more than 400 bottoms. He performed his first procedure 14 years ago but says business is booming now thanks to the array of women on reality shows that show off their big caboose.

While butt implants are one method, Dr. Zollman prefers transferring fat. He says implants can erupt or lead to infections. We went into the operating room to see how it’s done. Dr. Zollman performs liposuction taking extra fat from your abdomen and flanks and injecting it into your derriere.

The procedure could cost you about $8,000 or more depending on how much fat needs to be removed. It’s not covered by insurance but you can finance the surgery just like a car. One of Dr. Zollman’s patients is a mother of two who says her body took a beating from giving birth back to back. She says her new backside has changed her life.

“It has improved my confidence dramatically. Even before having children I never had any sort of feminine shape to my body. I was always flat and square and kind of like a boy.”

The patient didn’t want give us her name. She says her decision to get a new booty was a personal choice—a conclusion she came to with her husband.

The mom says it wasn’t about getting the biggest booty on the market but a personal choice that made her feel whole again.

“I didn’t want to go over the top or be big like a celebrity. I just wanted to be confident in my own skin and have enough to just feel like a girl.”

So let’s say you want a great bottom like this but you don’t have $8,000. If you have the time and determination, you can build up your butt muscles in the gym. FOX59 went to Max Impact Fitness in Zionsville to learn some key moved to work your bottom like lunges and squats.

“Strength training is where it’s at. If you want to build any muscle in your body butt arms, some nice quads or legs…You have to strength train,” said Max  Impact Fitness trainer Zach Williams.

Unlike cosmetic surgery, you won’t wake up with a great butt.

“The only difference is it’s not going to happen overnight. It’s going to take some months. It’s going to take some hard work and dedication,” said Williams.

Going after a quick fix has proven deadly, with silicone injections leading to drastic infections that can leave gaping holes in the skin. This method is typically practiced by unlicensed people in a non-sterile environment like hotel rooms.

“When you get injections you don’t know what it is. You don’t know who’s putting it in. You don’t know if the needles are sterile,” said Dr. Zollman.

And for our mom with the rounded rear she says the satisfaction, safety, and a successful procedure was all worth it.

“There’s no short cut worth it when it comes to your body. You get what you pay for in this society. And I’m not saying Dr. Zollman overcharges by any means but don’t take bargain basement shortcuts when we’re talking about your body,” said Williams.
