INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 4, 2015)–Nearly 20 vehicles on fire at an auto salvage business produced a column of black smoke that could be seen for several miles Saturday afternoon.

Indianapolis Fire crews were called to Copart Salvage Auto Auctions at 4040 Office Plaza Blvd. around 2:45 p.m.

That scene is near West 38th Street and Lafayette Road.

Fire crews were delayed in getting to the flames because the burning cars were behind an electrified fence that had to be shut down.

The business owner told firefighters the vehicles involved were in an area where they kept wrecked vehicles for salvage.

Damage has been estimated at $45,000.  No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
