INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 9, 2015)– A man died after a shooting Wednesday night on the north side of Indianapolis.

Police identified the man Thursday morning as Bryant D. Jackson of Indianapolis.

Officers were called to the 6400 block of Scenic Court, just north of Sycamore School, just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a person shot.

Police say Jackson was trying to corral a stray dog that was loose in the neighborhood. Witnesses say they heard shots fired and saw Jackson being dragged to the front porch by the occupants of the residence. He was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition and later died. The suspect reportedly ran off.

The dog was also shot and Animal Control reported to the scene.

At this point, detectives do not believe this was a random act. Officers ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
