INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 18, 2014)– The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) arrested an officer on several charges Thursday.
IMPD officer Christopher Dickerson has been charged with theft, obstruction of justice and official misconduct.
The allegations stem from a November run Dickerson responded to, and his failure to follow department rules relative to the proper handling of evidence, according to IMPD.

According to the probable cause, Dickerson was supposed to put three handguns and ammunition in the IMPD property room after responding to a “shots fired” run in early November. A few days later when it hadn’t been done, another officer asked him about it and he responded he “took care of them by throwing them in a lake.”
The report goes on to say Dickerson “told his girlfriend the handguns were fake and he disassembled them and threw them in dumpsters.”
IMPD obtained a search warrant and the report says they found more than 40 firearms inside his home and “there is probable cause to believe Officer Christopher Dickerson obtained other weapons illegally.”
“The investigation, initiated by our detectives in the Professional Standards Unit, is further evidence of our efforts to enforce corrective measures and address criminal conduct when it is discovered within IMPD,” said Chief Rick Hite.
Dickerson is on administrative leave with a recommendation of termination pending the outcome of the investigation.
Officer Dickerson has been employed with IMPD for five years.
